Wood Joints Table Legs

Three-way joints are essential for making tables, chairs and certain types of framing. construction methods range from gluing and screwing to dowelling or tenoning. a simple way to join a leg to two rails [1] is by using a commercially produced corner plate which fits into slots in the rails a number of sizes are available.. The approach i used for several tables now is to join the legs on the end to each other with mortise and tenon joints, and attach these to the rails that run along the length of the table with stub of wood that is also mortised into the legs, but screwed to the rails.. This table uses mortise and tenon joints for the legs and apron structure, with breadboard joints at the ends of the table top. these breadboard joints reduce any movement that may occur from the expansion and contraction of the wood over time and keep the table rigid..
